Gamification in autism

The purpose of this review is to understand the research that has been done on how gamification can
improve outcomes for individuals with autism. This review will be of particular interest to
professionals who work with autistic clients, special educators, and families of children with autism.
Readers will be able to understand the way that certain autism-friendly games are played, and the
effect that certain games have had on improving specific skills in autistic samples. This will be
particularly useful for those who are looking to introduce games for the purpose of improving a
specific skill, or for those interested in introducing gaming more generally to autistic people and would
like guidance on strategies for teaching gameplay skills.

Social Interactions in Inclusive Educational Settings

Social interactions in learning have been well-documented for several years and analysing it provides precious elements to explore deep learning processes (e.g., socio-cognitive and emotional aspects). Within the inclusive education perspective, it seems particularly important since it has been shown that a high level of social participation reflects the successful inclusion of students with disabilities. Nevertheless, investigation of social interactions, particularly among children that have a significantly different path of development, are challenging and should be carried out via an interdisciplinary perspective, including researchers, professionals, parents and also the people with disabilities.

Juliene Madureira Ferreira - Assistant professor, Tampere University Sabine Zorn - Postdoctoral researcher, and Esther Atlan - Doctoral researcher, INSHEA organise this workshop online, on the 28 and 29th january.

Launch of Firah's call for projects 2021

The FIRAH General Call for Projects is broad-based complementing the other Calls for Projects on specific topics launched in 2021.
This year, the general call for projects highlights the 3 following subjects:

  • education for children and young people with disabilities from pre-school to university;
  • exercise of citizenship and representation;
  • and disability considerations during the COVID-19 outbreak.

However, please note that these 3 subjects are not obligatory and FIRAH is also interested in receiving applied research projects outside of these.

EACD Europe 2021

People with childhood-onset disabilities and their families are living in challenging times. COVID-19 has hit our European society very hard and will keep our health care and economy for a long time in a stranglehold. Budgetary deficits are raging and savings are likely on the way. By taking a truly European perspective, EACD Europe 2021 has the ideal timing for EACD to conduct the discussion with local and European stakeholders on how to keep health service for people with childhood-onset disabilities affordable with acceptable quality and to place the most urgent challenges on the European agenda.

New version of the HDM-DCP

Since 1998, the year of its last publication, the HDM-DCP tool has quickly become indispensable and a scientific reference for analyzing and understanding the complex reality of people with disabilities and how environmental factors hinder or facilitate social participation and exercise of human rights. Now, everyone can talk and understand each other ... a little more than 20 years later, it seemed useful and relevant to thoroughly review the different components of the Classification, certain elements of which had "moved", a sign of evolution at various levels.
